Black History and Heritage Showcase

❤️💛💚 Black History & Heritage Wolverhampton Showcase 2026 ❤️💛💚

Join us on Friday 30th October, 6pm–9pm at Wolverhampton Art Gallery for a special evening celebrating the past, present and future of Wolverhampton’s Black community.

At the heart of this year’s showcase is the story of the 3C Warriors – celebrating their journey, the people behind the team and their important place within Wolverhampton’s Black sporting and community history. Through photographs, memories, personal stories and memorabilia, we’ll bring the 3C Warriors story to life and help preserve their legacy for future generations.

The showcase will take visitors on a journey through Wolverhampton’s rich Black history and heritage, bringing together sport, music, photography, art, community stories and lived experiences from across the city.

Across four themed spaces – Our Journey & Sound, Our Champions, Our Future and Our Community – visitors will discover the 1982 Wolverhampton–Jamaica Youth Exchange, organised by Crypt Associations and supported by Wolverhampton Youth Service, including the stories and memories of those who took part.

We’ll also explore the Black History Trails around Wolverhampton, uncovering the people, places and stories connected to the city’s Black heritage and highlighting the contributions that have helped shape Wolverhampton.

🎨 Celebrating Black Art in Wolverhampton

As part of the evening, we’ll also be celebrating Wolverhampton Art Gallery’s permanent feature dedicated to Black art – recognising the importance of Black artists, creativity and cultural expression within the Gallery and the wider story of the city.

The showcase will also explore Wolverhampton’s Sound System Culture, including Exodus, alongside the powerful 1978 Wolverhampton photographs by Chris Steele-Perkins, capturing moments from the city and its communities.

There will be live storytelling, community contributors and interactive creative workshops, including music with Beatsabar and painting with Rene, creating opportunities for different generations to get involved, share memories and contribute to Wolverhampton’s continuing story.

This is more than an exhibition. It is an opportunity to celebrate, remember, discover and preserve Wolverhampton’s Black history and heritage – recognising those who came before us, celebrating those making a difference today and inspiring the generations who will carry these stories forward.
